Germany sets new solar power record in the first six months of 2012

The German Federal Network Agency announced that more than 4.3 GW were installed in the first six months of the year, while in the same period last year were installed only 1.71 GW. This change is due to the new feed-in tariff legislation which introduced in June new monthly tariff degressions.

According to the Federal Association of Energy and Water (BDEW), in May this year were installed 8,500 new PV installations with a total capacity of about 2.5 GW, representing roughly 10% of Germany’s energy supply for that month, while June saw the highest amount of new installations this year with 1,790.921 MWp.

Germany, the world’s largest solar market, is projected to produce roughly 7.3GW of PV installation capacity, compared to 7.5GW in 2011. From 2010 onwards, when solar market reached maturity, annual installations of approximately 7GW to 8GW have been the norm, but this level is possible to decline in 2013.
