UK: The Big Six energy firms increased their profits five fold

According to informations from Ofgem, UK’s energy regulator, the Big Six energy suppliers saw their profit margins in the supply of gas and electricity increase to 4.3% in 2012, in comparison to 2.8% a year before. The big six operators made £53 profit per household customer last year, compared to £30 in 2011.

Ofgem: five of the six electricity distributors have to do more to cut costs for consumers

Energy regulator Ofgem has required to five of its six electricity distributors, including SSE and Scottish Power, to do more to cut costs for consumers. The six distribution companies presented their investment plans, but the only plan approved was those of Western Power Distribution’s( WPD), which customers will see a 11.30 pounds cut in their bills from April 2015.
