Andra: France reveals its radioactive waste inventory

France had a stockpile of radioactive wastes amounting some 1.32 million cubic meters in 2010, according to a new national radioactive waste report published by the management agency Andra. This represents almost a 13% increase from 1.15 million cubic meters recorded in 2007.

EIA: U.S. CO2 emissions to the lowest Q1 level in 20 years on less coal use

U.S. carbon dioxide emissions from energy use in the first quarter of 2012 dropped to their lower level in 20 years, being close to the 1990 levels, according to recent figures released by U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).

Germany new wind power installation up 26% in the first half of 2012

According to some data released by BWE wind power group and VDMA Power Systems turbine makers group, Germany has added about 1000 MW of installed wind farm capacity in the first six months of the year. They expect that the capacity will jump to 2400 MW by the end of the year, the equivalent to the energy produced by two nuclear power plants.

U.S EIA: 27 GW of coal-fired to be retired by 2016

Coal is projected to retain the largest share of the electricity generation mix through 2035. But as early as from 2012 to 2016 is expected to be retired about 27 GW of capacity from 175 coal-fired generators, mainly due modest growth in US energy demand along with a continuous drop in relative fuel prices of gas compared with coal, according to recent data released by U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).
