Sweden Doubles Down on Nuclear Energy with Parliamentary Approval
The Parliament of Sweden has approved a new energy bill paving the way for the construction of additional nuclear reactors beyond the 10 originally approved to boost energy security and reduce carbon emissions, Reuters reports. Sweden’s current fleet of six nuclear reactors is all that remains from 12 reactors after a 1980 referendum committed to exiting nuclear energy entirely.

France ‘omits’ renewable energy target in 2030 energy-climate plan
France’s draft national energy and climate plan (NECP), recently handed into the European Commission, fails to mention a renewable energy objective for 2030, referring instead to a “decarbonised” energy target incorporating nuclear power, contradicting the EU’s renewable energy directive.

Second large Polish nuclear plant gets approval
Poland's Ministry of Climate and Environment has issued a decision-in-principle for the country's second large nuclear power plant. Two South Korean-supplied APR1400 reactors are planned in the Patnów-Konin region.

MEPs fully include nuclear in Net-Zero Industry Act
The European Parliament has adopted its position on the proposed Net-Zero Industry Act (NZIA), which is intended to bolster Europe's manufacturing output in technologies needed for decarbonisation. MEPs included nuclear fission and fusion among a list of 17 technologies covered by the legislation.
