Supply unease underpins coal prices
European coal prices were little changed in Thursday trading as an imminent sanction-related halt to Russian supply continued to unnerve market participants and there were signs of limitations to alternative South African exports.

Crude oil prices gained ground on Friday as increased concerns about reduced Russian exports counterbalanced increased supply to the market from emergency reserves. Brent crude soared by $2.20, or 2.19%, to settle at $102.78 a barrel. U.S. WTI crude increased by $2.23 to $98.26 a barrel.

EU confirms ban to end all Russian coal imports by 10 August

Poles urge EU to stick with gas as a transition fuel in district heating
Poland’s largest electricity company, PGE, has asked EU regulators for more time to replace coal with gas in district heating systems, saying gas in Poland is now mostly supplied by countries other than Russia.
