Statoil unveils strong increase in exploration drilling in 2017

Statoil, the Norwegian multinational oil and gas company, announced that it plans to drill around 30 exploration wells in 2017, an increase of around 30 percent compared to last year. More than half of the wells will be drilled on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS).

Daily: Crude oil slightly up, but pares gains as OPEC euphoria fades

Crude oil prices rose modestly on Monday, as the OPEC euphoria started to fade. The market lost confidence that OPEC cuts would be sufficient to limit oversupply given increased U.S. drilling activity. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude jumped early in the day and began to pare gains in the late afternoon, ending at $51.79 a barrel, up 11 cents or 0.21 percent, before retreating to as low as $51.11 a barrel. Brent crude closed at $54.94 a barrel, up 48 cents - or 0.88 percent - before retreating to $54.22 a barrel.

Daily: British gas prices rebound due to an unplanned outage

Oil prices declined slightly on Wednesday as investors doubted that OPEC will agree to an output reduction large enough to curb significantly the global glut of oil as U.S. drilling increases. Oil prices oscillated thorough the day, opening lower in the morning and later shortly turning positive after the EIA said U.S. crude inventories unexpectedly declined 1.3 million barrels last week after three consecutive weeks of rises. Brent crude futures lost 17 cents, or 0.35 percent to settle at $48.95 a barrel. The U.S. WTI crude oil futures fell 7 cents, or 0.2 percent, to end at $47.96 a barrel.

French Total discovered more gas in the North Sea

Norway’s energy regulator, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD), said the subsidiary of the French giant Total found more gas while drilling a wildcat well in northeast part of the Martin Linge field, in the North Sea.
