Belgium to extend life of Tihange 1 nuclear reactor
Belgium has seven nuclear reactors generating about half of its electricity. Electricity production in Belgium was about 78.6 billion kWh (TWh) in 2012, of this 40.3 TWh was from nuclear. Most Belgian electricity is produced by Electrabel, a subsidiary of GDF Suez, which also controls all the nuclear plants. Electrabel owns 50% of Tihange 1 and 89.8% of Tihange 2 and 3.

Daily: Brent crude drops on Iran nuclear deal
Brent crude dropped toward $107 a barrel on Monday following the conclusion of a six nation’s new deal with Iran to curb its nuclear programme and as Barack Obama urged Congress not to impose supplementary sanctions on the country.

Spain: wind power was the main energy source in 2013
According to a new report from grid operator Red Electrica de Espana, last year, Spain got the bulk of its electricity from wind power, which has narrowly beat out nuclear power and coal as the primary source of electricity for Spain in 2013. According to the figures, wind turbines met 21.1% of electricity demand while nuclear reactors provided 21% of power.

Germany’s “Energiewende” is not as successful as thought
Currently, Germany is in the process of completely transforming its energy sector at a pace unmatched by other industrialized nations. It describes the country's politically supervised shift in direction from nuclear and fossil fuels to renewable sources of energy. The very term "Energiewende" is some 30 years old, but nowadays, the term is primarily associated with a fundamental policy shift in the country after the 2011 nuclear plant disaster in Fukushima, Japan. In the wake of Fukushima, Berlin oversaw the immediate closure of eight nuclear plants in Germany, with the rest of the stations to be shut down by 2022.
