Novatek in a gas deal with E.ON

Russia’s biggest independent gas producer Novatek, has contracted a deal with E.ON Russia, the Russian subsidiary of Germany's E.ON, to supply more gas in the period from 2014 to 2027. The deal would have a total cost of more than 8.5 billion dollars.

A U.S. strike in Syria would increase significantly oil prices

According to some energy market experts, oil prices could increase significantly if the U.S. atacks Syria. Analysts from the bank Societe Generale suggest the price could eventually increase to $125 if air strikes are launched, and $150 per barrel if the military action interrupts production in the region.

USA: Renewable energy represented 50% of new added capacity in 2012

Last year almost half of all new installed capacity in the USA was from renewable sources, in major part from wind and solar. The US has one of the largest wind power installed capacities in the world, enough to supply almost 10 million households across the country. Wind was the most popular renewable energy source in 2012 by far, accounting for 13.1GW.

CO2 emissions to drop in China in the next years to come

Renewables in China are expected to continue to lead the market, together with an increased dependence on natural gas, meaning that emissions from the sector are expected to peak in 2027 as coal's share of the energy mix falls to 44 % in 2030 from 67% in 2012.

China could soon become the biggest oil importer in the world

According to new figures from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, China could surpass the U.S. as the world’s largest net oil importer before the end of this year. EIA projects that total annual oil production in the USA will increase 28% in the period from 2011 to 2014, lessening the country’s reliance on foreign oil.
