Wind: Spain’s main electricity source

According to the Spanish Wind Energy Association (AEE), in 2013 wind power was the main source of energy in Spain, covering almost 21 percent of total demand and producing something like 54,478 GWh of electricity last year, nuclear power produced 20.8 percent of the country’s energy requirements, followed by hydroelectric power which met 14.4 % of demand, almost doubling in comparison to a year before. Combined-cycle plants accounted for 9.6 percent, coal-fueled plants 14.6 percent while solar photovoltaic only 3.1 percent.

Daily: British gas prices near winter lows amid weak demand, ample supplies

Brent crude oil registered a slight increase, buoyed by supply concerns in Middle East, as the Syrian civil war has impeded development of Iraq's oil and gas reserves and a key pipeline to the Mediterranean has exploded dozens of times. Brent oil increased 44 cents to settle at $107.85 per barrel.

Daily: British prompt gas hits one-week high on cold weather, weaker imports

Brent crude futures traded above $107 a barrel on Friday, as a cold snap in the United States boosted demand for heating oil and dragged down the country's stockpile of crude and distillates. Brent crude climbed 6 cents to $107.64 a barrel by 07:56 GMT, ending 69 cents lower in the previous session following weak manufactory activity figures from China, the world's second-largest oil consumer. Meanwhile, U.S. oil rose 24 cents to $97.56, extending gains after settling 59 cents up.

Daily: Brent crude slips below $106 per barrel on China figures, Iran nuclear deal

Brent crude dropped below $106 per barrel on Monday, dragged down by figures showing China's oil demand growth eased out further in 2013 and by news Iran had started implementing a nuclear deal with world powers, which could eventually enable more oil exports.
