UK to stop funding coal- fired power plants overseas

Ed Davey, Britain's energy secretary, has announced on Wednesday that the UK, as the US, would stop funding coal projects in developing countries. The objective is to cut greenhouse gas emissions and to encourage low-carbon development. The announcement was made at United Nations climate talks in Warsaw where the fossil fuels have been at the centre of a storm. About 90% of the Poland's electricity comes from coal, and the government has been resistant to EU calls to strengthen emissions reduction targets.

Daily: German, French power contracts diverge at 11.50 euro gap

Brent crude oil boosted by more than $1 a barrel on Wednesday after an American official said it would be "very hard" to reach a nuclear agreement with Iran this week. Daily: Brent crude tumbles on Iran negotiations, Libya exports

Brent crude futures dropped more than $1 a barrel on Tuesday as negotiations this week between world powers and Iran could lessen sanctions against the oil-rich country. The resumption of oil deliveries from Libya also weighed on Brent prices. Meanwhile, U.S. oil futures recovered from a four-month low to end the session higher, narrowing the spread between the two benchmarks by over $1 a barrel in a day of volatile trading.
