French utility EDF on Wednesday extended the outage at its 900 MW Cruas 2 nuclear reactor by two days until Saturday, adding that resumption of power generation could be delayed by ongoing safety checks following an earthquake.

Oil prices edged lower on Friday following data indicating that the Chinese economy registered the slowest growth in nearly three decades. Ongoing trade negotiations between China and U.S. and the rising amount in crude stockpiles also put pressure on prices. Hence, Brent crude dropped by 0.8% to end at $59.42 a barrel, while WTI futures lost 0.3% to settle at $53.78 a barrel.

EDF nuclear power generation fell 8.6% in September
Electricity generation from French nuclear reactors operated by utility EDF fell 8.6% year-on-year in September to 27.5 terawatt hours (TWh) due to a high number of reactor outages, the company said on Monday.
