The largest plant in Italy, Enel, is in negotiations with a European investor, on the sale of its stake held in a thermal power plant in Bulgaria, a share that reaches 73% in plant based on coal processing, with a capacity of 908 MW. Remaining shares are owned by the Bulgarian government.

The Bulgarian official, Traicho Traikov, said that the dialogue reached an advanced level between the two parties, but he did not want to say the name of the potential shareholder. Bulgarian media announced that the British company, International Power, has expressed an interest in the sale offer of a plant based in the lignite coal complex Maritsa East, in south of Bulgaria. The Bulgarian government intends to sell its shares to the same anonymous buyer or to place them on the Bulgarian Stock Exchange. In February, Enel utility has invested 700 million euros ($ 952.8 million) for upgrading a plant, increasing its capacity and environmental standards.

Despite knowing the destruction and dangers their activities pose to our planet and people, fossil fuel companies have been driving climate change and hold the key to avoiding impending disaster. What this points to is the urgent need for divestment, in spite of skepticism amongst some leaders.
