Gas price discussions between Russia and Ukraine

On Wednesday, the Russian President, Dmitry Medvedev, met with his counterpart from Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovich, to discuss the tariff reduction on imported gas, so fundamental for Ukrainian economy.

The lower price for the massive imports of gas from Russia will fix the details for the sketch of the budget 2010 and will as well secure a 12 billion dollars credit line from International Monetary Fund The new president of Ukraine, Yanukovich, will meet the Russian President, Medvedev, in Kharkiv, and on this occasion, he will strive to obtain a price reduction, since he considers the price is unreasonable. Russia declared that it will analyze the actual deal with Ukraine, basing on the proposals made by Yanukovich, but still, he did not promise a solution.

Crude oil prices soared on Friday, bolstered by rising tensions in the Middle East following a missile attack on an Iranian tanker. Hence, Brent crude traded 2.4% up at $60.51, while WTI futures rose by 2.2% to $54.70 a barrel.
