German hourly power drops to minus 50.26 euros per MWh for Sunday

German day-ahead power prices plunged as low as EUR -50.26/MWh on an hourly basis for a fourth consecutive Sunday amid low demand and high renewables feed-in.

A total of five consecutive hours saw negative prices between 12:00 and 17:00 CEST, with the hour from 14:00 CEST recording the lowest price. 

 

Wind power generation averaged 20.5 GW on Sunday, more than 6 GW above normal, data from Montel’s Energy Quantified (EQ) showed.

A slide in oil prices was noticed on Friday, as worries about the increasing number of coronavirus infections across the world stalled oil demand. Furthermore, a potential return of oil output from Libya weighed on the oil market. However, a new tropical storm in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico limited losses. Hence, Brent crude slipped by 0.4% to $43.15 a barrel. At the same time, the American WTI dropped by 0.3% to $41.11 a barrel.
