Spanish company Naturgy Energy Group SA announced today it has plans to develop 306 MW of wind farms in the autonomous community of Castile and Leon.

In all, the company will invest around EUR 300 million (USD 340.43m) to develop nine wind projects spread over 16 municipalities in the provinces of Burgos, Valladolid and Zamora, Naturgy said during a presentation of the schemes to the local officials.

When the nine plants are completed, they should be able to generate 950 GWh per year, enough to meet the annual demand of 380,000 homes, about 24% of the total in Castile and Leon.

The facilities are also expected to offset around 750,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually, Naturgy noted.
