Greece has awarded 502.94 MW of wind and solar power capacity in its latest mixed renewables tender, with bids hitting as low as EUR 49.11 (USD 53.06) per MWh.

Results from the tender, launched at the start of this month, were announced by the country’s Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE). The tender was conducted online and attracted proposals ranging between EUR 49.11/MWh and EUR 54.82/MWh. The weighted average of the winning projects amounted to EUR 51.59/MWh, which is a reduction from the EUR 57.03/MWh in last year's auction.

The tender was capped at EUR 61.32 per MWh. The lowest bid was made for a 200-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) scheme in Eordaia municipality.

A total of 44 bids took part in the competition that targeted 500 MW of capacity. Solar photovoltaic (PV) projects grabbed more than two-thirds of the total awarded volume, or about 350 MW. While the biggest project in the solar category in terms of capacity was for a 200-MW PV park, the largest onshore wind winning scheme was a 153-MW wind farm in northern Greece.

EMV, Heliothema Energy and Spes Solaris Solar Concept are among the names of the selected bidders.

In its 2019 mixed-technology renewable energy tender, RAE awarded 437.78 MW of power generating capacity, almost half of which (204 MWp) was won by the local unit of German project developer Juwi AG.
