Romania coal power plants in violation of EU emissions law

Romania’s coal-fired power plant fleet is violating European emissions laws, as stated in a report published this week by Greenpeace Romania.

The report found that, of Romania’s 11 coal-fired power plants, only two have avoided surpassing EU emissions standards while the remaining have continued to run illicitly. The two coal-fired power plants that function within legal limits are the 630 MW Isalnita plant and the 1320 MW Rovinari plant, as indicated in the report.

Crude oil prices traded lower on Tuesday, after Donald Trump reported that a quick trade deal will unlikely happen soon. Meanwhile, oil prices were supported by protests in OPEC members Iraq and Ecuador, which threatened to disrupt their oil output. Hence, WTI futures fell by 0.2% to $52.63 a barrel, while Brent crude edged 0.2% down at $58.24 a barrel.
