A new project designed at enhancing security of gas delivery and diminish energy reliance in Europe has been offered around  €50 million (£44 million).

Transgaz, the Romanian gas transmission company, will utilize the funds from the European Investment Bank (EIB) to construct pipeline of 478km between Podisor and Recas regions and three compressor stations established in Podisor, Bibesti and Jupa.

It is the first stage of the Romanian segment of the €500 million (£442 million) Transgaz-Brua Gas Interconnection program from Bulgaria to Austria through Romania and Hungary.

Andrew McDowell European Investment Bank Vice President announced: “This strategic project implemented under the Investment Plan for Europe will interconnect the South East and the Central European gas transmission infrastructure and eliminate the dependence of South-Eastern European countries on a single gas supplier.”

He further affirmed that the program will contribute to the security of supply for these countries, facilitating the access to lower gas prices and offering enhanced price convergence and transparency, thus reducing consumer susceptibility.

The crucial finding from the analysis is that 20 oil, gas and coal companies can be directly linked to over one third of all energy industry greenhouse gases in modern history. Despite knowing the destruction and dangers their activities pose to our planet and people, fossil fuel companies have been driving climate change and hold the key to avoiding impending disaster. What this points to is the urgent need for divestment, in spite of skepticism amongst some leaders.
