Elmya EPC to build two solar plants in Spain

Elmya EPC has signed a contract for the design, construction, and operation of two Cero Generation solar plants with a total capacity of 85MWp in Herrera de Pisuerga, Palencia, Spain under the Full EPC lite model.
Under the agreement, Elmya EPC will be responsible for the construction of the 52.27MWp Pisoraca 2 and 32.53MWp Pisoraca 3 sites.
Cero has a 26GW portfolio and has over 370 solar and battery storage projects under construction across eight European countries.
Pisoraca will be the third project where the Seville-based company collaborates with Cero, following the success of two previous projects in Italy: Bolotana A (5.75MWp) and Bolotana B (9.25MWp).
In this instance, Elmya EPC will handle the construction, commissioning, and operation during the warranty period for both plants.
Additionally, the project will include the construction of medium- voltage underground lines connecting each sectioning centre with the existing substations, with a length of approximately 3km each.
Cero Generation chief executive Marta Martínez Queimadelos said: "We look forward to constructing these plants, creating job opportunities for local people, delivering a range of community benefits, and ultimately, putting more renewable energy into the Spanish transmission network."
The two new plants in Herrera de Pisuerga will feature advanced technology, including solar trackers and central inverters.
Each site will also have a sectioning centre designed to accommodate the future addition of a battery storage system, with space reserved on the sites for this purpose.
Elmya EPC general director Gerardo Rodríguez Pagano said: "Cero Generation is a strategic client for Elmya EPC.
"After our joint projects in Italy, collaborating in Spain became a top priority for us. We are fully committed to ensuring the success of these projects for both companies, and I have no doubt that we will achieve it."
Both schemes will be built in parallel and located next to each other, optimising resources and construction efficiency.
To date, two Early Works have been completed for these projects, signed in December 2023 and February 2024, focusing on engineering work, preliminary studies, and site clearing.
The two solar power plants are expected to be operational in the first half of 2026 and will generate enough electricity to power over 44,946 households, avoiding the emission of 42,800 tonnes of CO2 annually.
