Wind2 and EDP Renewables (EDPR) have obtained planning approval for the 15MW Moorshield Wind Farm in East Renfrewshire. This wind farm, situated on land southwest of Bennan Loch and 1 km east of the M77, will include three wind turbines, each with a maximum blade tip height of 149.9m. Developed by Wind2 for EDPR, the Moorshield Wind Farm is projected to generate around 50GWh of electricity each year, which can supply approximately 14,250 average UK households. The wind farm is anticipated to commence operations by 2026 and will assist the Scottish Government in achieving its goal of deploying 20GW of onshore wind by 2030. Carmen Caminero, EDPR UK's country manager, expressed pride in reaching this milestone, adding it enhances their portfolio of nearly 200MW of approved projects in the UK, including battery storage and onshore wind capacity, that they plan to advance to construction in the coming years. Project manager for Wind2, Karen Elliott, noted her pride in managing the Moorshield Wind Farm and thanked the East Renfrewshire Council planners for their efforts in the application process. In addition to its environmental and energy advantages, the Moorshield Wind Farm will also establish a community benefit fund of £5,000 per MW annually, totaling £2.25 million over the project's lifespan.
