Hungary's MVM CEEnergy is in discussions with Turkey's Botas regarding a gas import agreement.

MVM CEEnergy from Hungary is negotiating a new gas import agreement with the Turkish state gas company Botas, as stated by the CEO in an interview with Reuters on Friday. This follows their initial agreement in 2023, which allowed MVM to import approximately 300 million cubic meters of gas. The CEO, Laszlo Fritsch, mentioned during the Istanbul Energy Forum that they are currently working on a larger agreement for 2025. He emphasized that Russian gas will remain a significant part of the country's energy supply, noting that TurkStream is the primary import route. Fritsch also pointed out that reliance solely on LNG is not feasible due to its distance, as Russian gas remains competitive in the region.
