Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology announced on Tuesday that the first turbine at a 150-MW wind farm in Kazakhstan has been connected to the grid.

The GWH 171-6.25MW machine, along with 23 additional units produced by the Chinese manufacturer, will form the Khromtau wind complex in the Aktobe Region of northwestern Kazakhstan. The construction of the plant is being carried out by the Power Construction Corporation of China, also referred to as PowerChina.

As per a separate announcement from the construction contractor, the first Goldwind turbine was installed and operational 32 days ahead of schedule. The entire facility is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2025.

This wind project is estimated to require an investment of USD 178 million (EUR 171.9 million). It is being developed by Kazakhstan Electrolysis Plant JSC, an operator of an aluminum plant, which falls under the natural resources company Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation, and is supported by the Development Bank of Kazakhstan.
