EDF is looking for clients beyond France for long-term agreements in nuclear energy.

On Thursday, French energy leader EDF announced that it will provide long-term nuclear power contracts to companies outside of France, provided they can accept delivery of the electricity.

This invitation for contracts, which are referred to as nuclear production allocation contracts (CAPN), comes in light of EDF's difficulty in securing long-term deals with domestic industrial clients amid a notable drop in market prices.

Contracts totaling approximately 10 terawatt-hours will be available through an auction and are open to any European company whose energy needs exceed 7 gigawatt-hours per year, as well as to suppliers or producers capable of transmitting electricity from France, EDF stated in a press release.

The pricing of these contracts will be based on the operational costs of the nuclear fleet and will not be linked to wholesale market prices, according to the company.

These contracts represent the first opportunity for non-French consumers, as well as users with significantly lower power requirements compared to heavy industry.
