SSE Renewables activates a 28-MW wind farm in France.

SSE Renewables, the green energy division of British utility SSE plc, has launched its 28-MW Chaintrix-Bierges and Velye wind farm in the Grand-Est region of northeastern France.

The project was completed on schedule and within its budget, with a total investment that surpassed EUR 30 million (USD 32.5 million). SSE Renewables announced on LinkedIn that this marks its inaugural wind project to commence operations in mainland Europe and is also the first to be established outside of its primary markets -- the UK and Ireland.

Situated in the Le Marne department, Chaintrix-Bierges and Velye features eight Siemens Gamesa SG 3.4-132 wind turbines, with operations managed by asset management firm Greensolver.

SSE Renewables made a final investment decision for the project in 2023 and began construction in September 2023. The first 3.4-MW turbine was installed last summer.
