Italy's fifth regasification terminal is scheduled to start up next month.

Italian energy company Snam plans to begin commercial operations at a floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) near Ravenna next month, marking the country’s fifth liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification terminal.
The FSRU BW Singapore has finished its commissioning and is on track to start operations as scheduled, as reported by Snam.
Once final approvals are obtained, regasification will commence in May, offering capacity via competitive auctions in accordance with relevant regulations.
Built in 2015, the BW Singapore can hold 170,000 cubic meters of LNG. Snam finalized its acquisition of the vessel in December 2023 after striking a deal in 2022.
Located 8.5 kilometers off Ravenna's coast, the FSRU has an annual regasification capacity of 5 billion cubic meters. Its mooring at the Petra platform was completed on February 28, 2025.
With this unit operational, Italy's total regasification capacity will increase by 28 billion cubic meters per year, which accounts for 45% of national gas demand, bringing the total number of regasification terminals to five.
Snam believes LNG will continue to diversify the Italian energy landscape. It stated that LNG met a quarter of Italy's gas demand in 2024, with around 150 ships from about ten countries arriving at the country’s four regasification terminals.
The company noted that in the first four months of 2025, around 60 gas carriers reached Italy, with half of them coming from the USA (up from a third last year), Qatar, and various African nations, totaling nearly 6 billion cubic meters or about 30% of the gas imported.
