Smart meter installations increased by 15%.

In March, the smart meter rollout experienced a significant increase, with 15% more installations compared to the same month last year, as reported by ElectraLink’s latest energy insight data. Last month, installations reached 213,000, marking a 10% increase from February 2025. Although March showed growth, the overall pace for the first quarter of the year aligns with early 2024 figures.
This year, over 600,000 smart meters have been installed, bringing the total to 25.38 million since ElectraLink began tracking data in 2012. The leading regions included East England with 25,000 installations, southern England with 23,000, and the East Midlands with 21,000.
ElectraLink’s data, focused on electricity smart meter installations across Great Britain, serves as a reliable measure of the broader smart meter program’s progress. While over 30 million smart meters are currently installed in GB, DESNZ monitors dual fuel progress separately.
The smart meter rollout is crucial to Britain’s energy modernization efforts, as policymakers aim to encourage households to adopt flexible tariffs and manage energy consumption effectively. With the government’s 2025 target to provide smart meters to every home approaching, the industry hopes to sustain March’s momentum to keep the rollout on schedule.
