Contract finalized for the construction of a geothermal heating plant in Sochaczew, Poland.

The contract for designing and constructing the geothermal heating plant in Sochaczew, Poland, has been signed between Envirotech, based in Poznan, and the Thermal Energy Company (PEC Sochaczew).

The contract, worth PLN 46.42 million (approximately USD 12.40 million), involves building a geothermal heating system at al. 600-lecia 70, using water from the GT-1 and GT-2 boreholes. It also includes adapting the PEC infrastructure to the new geothermal source, with completion expected by December 2026.

The first research well, GT-1, was drilled in 2018 on Okrezna Street with a PLN 10 million subsidy, while the second well, GT-2, was drilled in 2024 to a depth of 1620 meters. Tests showed an outlet temperature of 44.5 °C with a flow rate of 184 m³/hour and favorable injectivity.

The drilling of the second well and the heating plant's construction are funded by PLN 62 million (USD 15.63 million) from the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOSiGW), received by the city in 2023.

In late 2023, Sochaczew received PLN 62 million (USD 15.63 million) from NFOSiGW for the drilling of a second well and the construction of the heating plant.

“This is the largest energy project in the Sochaczew region, part of a total task valued at PLN 76 million gross,” stated Mayor Daniel Janiak during the contract signing.

“Geothermal energy presents a great opportunity for stable, safe, and reasonably priced heat for apartments, and I believe we will soon have quality water supplies for our taps after treatment,” added MP Maciej Malecki.

“I am pleased that the mayor, the president of PEC, and their teams are managing this project effectively. This is the largest energy investment in Sochaczew's history.”
