Spain is looking into a distinct decrease in production that occurred before the grid failure.

Energy Minister Sara Aagesen stated that there was a significant decrease in power generation in southern Spain 19 seconds before the separate drops in the southwest, which led to last Monday's blackout.

The investigation into the outage is looking into whether this newly detected "disturbance" is linked to those previously reported by TSO Red Electrica, according to Aagesen during an interview with public broadcaster TVE.

The nationwide blackout happened after two major reductions in power generation in the southwest began at 12:33 last Monday, as reported by a Red Electrica executive last week.

Aagesen did not disclose the generation technology or capacity related to the earlier incident in southern Spain during the interview.

All possibilities, including a cyberattack, are still being explored in the investigation into the blackout, although she has again dismissed renewable generation as the cause.

Meanwhile, power lobby Aelec stated today that Spanish utilities and distributors should have access to the same blackout data available to Red Electrica.
