Vattenfall begins installing turbines at a 139-MW wind farm in Sweden.

Swedish state-owned utility Vattenfall AB announced on Wednesday that installation of turbines has commenced at its 139-MW Bruzaholm wind farm in the Eksjo municipality of southern Sweden.

Components for the 21 wind turbines are arriving at the port of Oskarshamn and are being transported through the forests of Smaland to the site. The installation of the three lowest tower sections has already been completed on several turbines, according to the company.

Kathinka Lofberg, the project manager for Bruzaholm energy park, noted that transporting the 63 wings, each 83 meters long, poses significant challenges. Each transport, which includes the special vehicle and the blade, measures over 100 meters in length.

The Bruzaholm wind farm is slated to be operational by December. Additionally, Vattenfall is constructing a 38-MW/38-MWh battery storage system to provide ancillary services alongside it.

Once connected to the grid, the turbines will supply electricity to Sweden’s SE3 area, with an expected annual production of 460 GWh. Vattenfall has secured a 10-year agreement with Volvo for 50% of the output.
