BayWa r.e. has sold its biggest battery project in Europe to Vopak.

BayWa r.e. AG, the struggling renewables division of German company BayWa AG, has sold its largest European battery project, a Dutch initiative that has already obtained land, necessary permits, and a 300-MW grid connection approval.

The ready-to-build project, created by the German firm's Dutch subsidiary GroenLeven, was purchased by local independent tank storage firm Vopak.

The battery energy storage system (BESS) is situated in the northern Netherlands and will connect to TenneT's high-voltage transmission grid. Vopak will handle further development, intending to utilize utility-scale Li-ion battery technology.

BayWa r.e. stated that this deal enhances its standing in the European energy storage market. The company plans to leverage the experience gained to create more facilities in the Netherlands and other countries.
