FID granted for a 50-MW battery project in Finland to be developed by Eco Stor.

Eco Stor GmbH, a German-Norwegian provider of power storage systems, will develop a 50-MW battery connected to the grid in central Finland, primarily owned by its major shareholder, Norwegian utility A Energi. The project is fully funded, and all stakeholders have approved the final investment decision. Eco Stor will co-own the battery energy storage system (BESS) with A Energi, Norwegian investment firm Farvatn, and Finnish company AmpTank.
The one-hour battery will be situated near Isokangas, close to several wind farms and a substation from Finnish transmission operator Fingrid. Construction has already begun, with the facility expected to be operational by 2026. It is designed for potential expansion to a two-hour system, and the initial land lease, valid until 2039, can be extended.
In addition to capacity installation, Eco Stor will oversee the BESS. CEO Trygve Burchardt stated that the Isokangas project aims to pave the way for more BESS initiatives in Finland.
