RWE launches wind farm in France.

RWE has officially opened its first wind farm in Brittany, France.

The Beg Ar C’Hra wind farm, situated in Plounévez-Moëdec and Plounérin, was developed in collaboration with the Lannion-Trégor semi-public company.

This partnership resulted in the issuance of the environmental permit in 2022 without any appeals.

Construction began a year later, in the fall of 2023, and the wind farm was successfully commissioned in November 2024.

It features four Nordex N117 turbines, with a total capacity of 14.7MW, sufficient to supply annual electricity, including heating, for about 7,000 households.

Katja Wünschel, RWE’s CEO for renewables in Europe and Australia, stated: “The inauguration of the Beg Ar C’Hra wind farm marks a significant milestone for RWE in Brittany and showcases our capability to execute complex projects through collaboration.

“This wind farm reflects our dedication to fostering an inclusive energy transition, harmonized with the local environment and developed alongside local stakeholders.”

The development of the Beg Ar C’Hra wind farm involved close cooperation with local partners from the beginning. RWE collaborated with various experts to evaluate the potential environmental effects of the turbines.

Consequently, several measures were put in place, including planting hedgerows and creating a pond to enhance amphibian habitats.
