HydePoint and its partners initiate a new hydrogen project in Norway.

Norwegian hydrogen systems developer HydePoint has teamed up with Karmsund Hydrogen, which is owned by Norwegian Hydrogen, Sigma, and Karmsund Group, to construct a green hydrogen facility in Karmsund.

The facility will be situated at Karmsund Group’s Service Base, providing maritime and onshore sector users direct access to locally produced hydrogen.

The project aims to generate over 3,000 tons of hydrogen annually, supported by 20 MW of installed electrolysis capacity.

HydePoint will contribute specialized technology and expertise in maritime hydrogen production, utilizing a barge system integrated with onshore infrastructure for modular and flexible hydrogen deployment.

Initial hydrogen deliveries from the facility are anticipated in 2028, with partners actively engaging industrial and maritime customers to align production with local demand.

Marie Aanensen, Chair of the Board at Karmsund Hydrogen, expressed pride in advancing hydrogen production in Haugalandet, emphasizing the project's potential to create new green value chains and enhance industry competitiveness in a low-emission future.

Jens Berge, CEO of Norwegian Hydrogen, highlighted the importance of strong industrial partnerships in achieving real emission reductions, noting Haugalandet's potential as a hub for green industry and their commitment to actionable collaboration.

Norwegian Hydrogen and HydePoint are also exploring ways to expedite the development of mid-size dockside and near-shore green hydrogen projects as part of their partnership formed in late 2024.
