Germany aims to accelerate the approval processes for renewable energy projects.

The German government is progressing with a draft law intended to significantly reduce approval times for renewable energy projects outside designated acceleration zones.
In a statement from the Ministry for the Environment and Climate Action on Tuesday, it was noted that coalition parliamentary groups can immediately present the bill to the German Bundestag, allowing for its passage after the summer recess.
The legislation aims to implement the EU renewable energy directive, known as RED III, into German law.
A key aspect of the draft is to expedite approval processes under emissions control and water legislation, setting maximum deadlines for approvals that could range from one month to two years, depending on the project type.
Additionally, applications can be submitted to a single authority, which will serve as the main contact point throughout the process and involve other authorities as needed.
Moreover, all approval processes for renewable energy projects are required to be conducted exclusively online starting November 1, 2025.
