RWE begins construction on the 63MW Golticlay wind farm.

RWE has begun construction on the 63MW Golticlay onshore wind farm in Caithness, Scotland. The project, which consists of 11 turbines and is situated 5km northwest of Lybster, is set to be fully operational by the end of 2026. Golticlay will use Nordex N149/5.7 turbines with 180-meter tip heights, providing power for around 84,000 homes annually, as reported by RWE.
The German developer has chosen Farrans as the main civil contractor and Nordex to supply the Delta4000-series turbines via the port of Wick. RWE is collaborating with local suppliers, including Alan Gow Groundworks, which plans to hire 25 workers during its operations. Victoria Allen, head of onshore development for RWE in Scotland, stated that the start of construction highlights their commitment to Scotland's renewable energy sector and will contribute both clean energy and economic benefits locally.
Golticlay joins RWE’s Enoch Hill, Camster II, and Strathy Wood projects that are currently under construction, totaling a combined capacity of 231MW. Patrick Murray, regional director at Farrans, mentioned that Golticlay will significantly benefit the local economy and support Scotland's renewable energy objectives. Nicholas Smith, UK & Ireland project manager at Nordex Group, emphasized that collaborating with Scottish businesses and utilizing the port of Wick will not only yield high-performance energy but also provide meaningful community advantages.
