Kazakhstan increased its oil production by 11.6% in the first half of the year and has no intention of leaving OPEC+.

Kazakhstan's oil production in the first half of 2025 increased by approximately 11.6% to 49.9 million metric tons compared to the same period in 2024, with officials stating the country plans to remain in the OPEC+ alliance. The Central Asian nation has consistently surpassed OPEC+ quotas, which has frustrated some members, according to industry sources.
Energy Minister Erlan Akkenzhenov reported that Kazakhstan exported 39.6 million tons of oil (1.64 million barrels per day) and expects total exports for the year to reach 70.5 million tons. Reuters calculates the ratio of barrels to metric tons at 7.5. Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov confirmed that Kazakhstan intends to stay in OPEC+, despite challenges in meeting production quotas due to the expansion of the Chevron-led Tengiz oilfield. Kazakhstan's OPEC+ production quota will increase to 1.532 million barrels per day in August from 1.514 million barrels per day in July, excluding gas condensate output.
