Cubico moves forward with a 147-MW solar and BESS project in the UK for planning review.

Cubico Sustainable Investments, a UK-based renewables investor, has progressed with plans for the 147-MW Frodsham Solar project in Cheshire, as the UK Planning Inspectorate has accepted the application for examination.
Located north of Frodsham and next to an existing wind farm, the project also features a 100-MW battery energy storage system (BESS). It is categorized as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project due to its scale and potential impact on the UK energy system.
Frodsham Solar aims to provide clean electricity to local homes and businesses, improve biodiversity through habitat creation, and offer public access and recreational opportunities. The proposed connection to SP Energy Networks and direct supply routes could aid in decarbonising the Energy Innovation District, which represents about 5% of UK energy demand, according to Cubico.
The application was submitted on May 30 and was accepted for examination on June 27, with a public registration period ongoing until August 28.
