Mainzer Stadtwerke and Linde are set to enhance a decade-old hydrogen facility in Germany.

Mainzer Stadtwerke AG has decided to extend its hydrogen production partnership with Linde GmbH to upgrade an electrolysis facility in Mainz, Germany.

The collaboration began in 2015 with the launch of the Mainz Energy Park, a nationally recognized pilot project that generates hydrogen from wind energy.

The partners plan to develop Mainz Energy Park 2.0 at the same location, replacing ten-year-old electrolysers with new ones that will have a combined output of nearly 5 MW. Additionally, the current hydrogen filling station will be upgraded.

The project has secured around EUR 2.5 million in funding from the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport.

Work on Mainz Energy Park 2.0 is set to start in summer 2025, with commissioning scheduled for 2027.

The renovation will enable the energy park to continue producing hydrogen for another 15 years.
