Germany plans to eliminate the gas storage fee.

Germany's cabinet approved a draft bill on Wednesday to eliminate a gas storage levy for all consumers to reduce energy costs.
After decades of relying on cheap Russian gas, Europe's largest economy is facing high energy expenses that are affecting its export-oriented, energy-intensive sectors like chemicals and metals production.
The levy was introduced in 2022 to cover the costs of replacing Russian gas after Moscow reduced supplies. Although it was initially intended to be shared widely, pressure from neighboring countries led Berlin to impose the charge only on German consumers.
Government estimates suggest that removing the levy will offer about 3.4 billion euros in relief to consumers, saving an average four-person household between 30 euros and 60 euros annually.
