The government is reminding qualifying households to receive a £150 discount on their energy bills.

The UK Government is urging eligible households to verify that their names are on their energy bills to receive a £150 discount this winter. This discount will automatically go to billpayers receiving certain means-tested benefits between October and March.
In England and Wales, households receiving Housing Benefit, Income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, Income Support, Pension Credit, and Universal Credit are eligible. Over six million households are expected to benefit from the Warm Home Discount scheme this year, an increase of 2.7 million homes.
Eligible households should ensure their names are on their electricity bill, as suppliers will rely on these records from August 24, 2025. Last winter, 96% of eligible households received the discount automatically, making it the most straightforward method for most households.
Energy Consumers Minister Miatta Fahnbulleh stated: “We took decisive action earlier this year to expand the Warm Home Discount, providing more working families with certainty and peace of mind before winter. I want to ensure as many eligible households as possible receive £150 off their energy bill, putting more money in their pockets as part of our Plan for Change. If you know someone who might be eligible, please help spread the word and encourage them to check their energy bill.”
Customers on pre-payment meters using a key or card must also ensure their household account is registered in their name.
