Fuel supply agreements finalized for Sizewell C.

Sizewell C has entered into a six-year contract with Urenco for uranium enrichment services and a long-term fuel fabrication agreement with Framatome for its planned nuclear power plant in the UK. The Urenco contract will ensure a stable supply of enriched uranium for the plant's initial six years, with services provided at Urenco's Capenhurst site in north-west England. Urenco CEO Boris Schucht emphasized the importance of Sizewell C for the UK's energy future and the economic contributions it generates.

Additionally, Sizewell C’s agreement with Framatome involves fuel fabrication for the initial cores and later reloads, initially using enriched uranium from Framatome's facility in France until a new UK site is operational. This initiative aims to create jobs and decrease dependency on fuel imports. Framatome has previously secured multi-billion-pound contracts related to Sizewell C.

The project plans to utilize two EPR reactors generating 3.2 GW of electricity, sufficient to power around six million homes for over 60 years. The design will be similar to the Hinkley Point C plant, aiming for quicker and more cost-effective construction. A final investment decision was reached in July.

Julia Pyke and Nigel Cann, Joint Managing Directors of Sizewell C, stated that these contracts are significant for energy security in the UK and will provide low-carbon fuel primarily sourced from the UK, produced by local workers. They aim to deliver 70% of the project's construction value to UK businesses, potentially increasing that figure to around 90% over the project's duration.

Recently, Sizewell C also contracted Arabelle Solutions for the supply and installation of two turbine islands for the planned plant, with EDF’s subsidiary already providing turbines for Hinkley Point C.
