Netherlands Launches 1 GW Nederwiek I-A Offshore Wind Bid.

The tender for the 1 GW Nederwiek I-A offshore wind energy site is now open, with the winning bid expected to be revealed in spring 2026. This wind farm will be situated about 95 kilometers from the northern tip of North Holland, in the southern section of the Nederwiek offshore wind zone. It will connect to TenneT's Nederwiek 1 platform, part of the Netherlands' gradual rollout of a 2 GW standard. Export cables will lead to Borselle, allowing TenneT to integrate the power generated into the national grid.
Construction of the offshore wind farm is scheduled for 2030. Similar to previous rounds like IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Beta, the project will be awarded through a comparative assessment using financial bids, along with additional criteria to promote innovation in ecology, circularity, and system integration.
Initially, two 2 GW lots were planned for a September 2025 offering, but the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy later decided to reduce this to one lot to lower risks and increase participation. During this time, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Climate Policy Sophie Hermans noted that Nederwiek 1-B was excluded from this round due to the K13-A gas transit platform.
In May 2025, Minister Hermans also withdrew the IJmuiden Ver Gamma A and B lots from the tender due to worsening market conditions. The Dutch industry organization NedZero reported that rising costs and reduced electricity demand are causing a slowdown in offshore wind development globally. To counteract this in the Netherlands, the government introduced an Offshore Wind Energy Action Plan in September 2025, aiming to provide financial support for new offshore projects and stimulate demand.
After the Nederwiek I-A tender closes on October 30, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) will assess the submissions, with the winner to be announced in spring 2026. Nederwiek I-A marks the first of several lots in this region, with the timing for tenders for Nederwiek I-B and II dependent on government formation, according to NedZero. A new roadmap is expected from the Dutch government in 2026.
