Galileo Empower secures approval for a 49.6-MW wind project in Scotland.
Empower Renewables, based in Dublin, and pan-European developer Galileo Green Energy have received planning permission for a 49.6-MW wind farm after appealing to the Scottish government. The approval came after the Perth and Kinross Council did not determine the application. The joint venture, Galileo Empower, will oversee the project.

The Craighead Wind Farm will be located near Carnbo in Kinross-shire and will feature eight turbines, each with a capacity of 6.2 MW. Three turbines will have blade tip heights of up to 180 metres, while five will reach up to 200 metres. The wind farm is expected to operate for 40 years, providing green energy for approximately 48,200 homes each year.

Galileo Empower originally proposed a wind farm with up to 12 turbines and a total capacity of 72 MW, but the plan was reduced twice to lessen the landscape and visual impact. This permit marks the first onshore wind consent for Galileo Empower since its formation about five years ago. This summer, the company also submitted a planning application for the 476-MW Dorenell Extension Windfarm project in Scotland.
