OMV will acquire Shell's geothermal projects in the Netherlands.

OMV Green Energy GmbH, via OMV GeoTherm NL BV, will acquire Shell's geothermal projects in Rotterdam, Capelle, and Rijnland, Netherlands.
Since the mid-2010s, Shell Geothermal Energy has been engaged in geothermal exploration in the Netherlands, identifying potential sites in Delft, near Rotterdam (Rijnmond area), in Westland's greenhouse horticulture, and several locations in Friesland.
Earlier this year, Shell decided to scale back its geothermal activities in the Netherlands, transferring its involvement in the Leeuwarden (GCL), Delft (GTD), and Westland (ADL) projects to their partners. The permit for the Port of Rotterdam has also been canceled.
The entire remaining project portfolio in Rotterdam, Capelle, and Rijnland has been handed over to OMV Green Energy GmbH under the name OMV GeoTherm NL.
The Rijnland Geothermal Energy Consortium stated, “With OMV’s participation, we gain a partner who contributes technical knowledge and experience relevant to the consortium’s work. We look forward to collaborating with OMV in the next phase of the project.”
OMV is also engaged in the “deeep” geothermal project in Vienna, Austria, alongside project partner Wien Energie, where drilling of initial wells has been completed. Additionally, the company has obtained a geothermal exploration license near Bremen, Germany.
