Vital Energi has purchased the Port Clarence biomass facility.

Vital Energi, a provider of energy infrastructure solutions, has acquired the Port Clarence biomass facility in Teesside, England.
This acquisition follows Vital Energi’s successful £175 million Nordic Bond issue, one of the largest Sterling-denominated Nordic Bond raises in the UK energy infrastructure sector.
The fundraising highlights strong international investor confidence in Vital Energi’s expertise, track record, and growth strategy.
The Port Clarence facility was purchased from Nuveen Infrastructure / Glenmont Infrastructure.
Port Clarence marks a key step in Vital Energi’s transition from energy solutions provider to significant asset owner. The company will use its experience from the successful commissioning of the Drakelow energy-from-waste (EfW) facility and will invest further in optimizing it for better productivity and returns.
Drakelow processes up to 169,000 tonnes of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) annually, generating up to 18 MWe of electrical capacity.
In contrast, Port Clarence is anticipated to deliver over 30 MWe upon completion, representing a significant increase in scale and ambition.
Both facilities will send the energy produced to the national grid, aiding the UK’s renewable energy capacity and decarbonization goals.
The acquisition emphasizes Vital Energi’s commitment to revitalizing stalled or underutilized infrastructure into operational, high-performing energy-from-waste assets, solidifying its role as a leading player in the UK’s sustainable energy sector.
