Stellantis is expected to reduce car production in France by 11% by 2028.

Stellantis' French factories are projected to see an 11% reduction in production over the next three years, as indicated by trade union sources referencing company estimates. By 2028, output from the five assembly plants in France is expected to decline to 587,800 units, as reported by two union representatives to Reuters, aligning with an earlier Financial Times report.

Three of the five factories are anticipated to experience reduced production, with the Poissy plant expected to face the largest decrease, according to one source. This projection may change based on EU decisions due on December 10, which are likely to provide more flexibility in achieving CO2 targets and implement measures to aid the European automotive sector.

Stellantis has not provided any comments on the situation. Earlier this year, the carmaker paused production at its Poissy and Mulhouse facilities due to low demand in the European market. Recent data revealed a 5.5% drop in vehicle registrations for Stellantis in France during November, resulting in a market share of 25.3%, down from nearly 27% the previous year.

Although the company reported a 13% increase in revenue for the third quarter, it noted exceptional charges related to adjustments in its strategic and product initiatives under new CEO Antonio Filosa. Filosa is set to unveil his business plan early next year and has already announced initiatives, including significant pre-tax charges in the first half, reintroducing popular models like the Jeep Cherokee SUV, and shifting focus toward hybrid and gasoline vehicles.
