CIP's offshore wind project in the UK has received development approval.

The UK Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero has granted the Development Consent Order (DCO) for the Morecambe offshore wind farm located in the Irish Sea, which is owned by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP).
The seabed lease for this 480 MW project, expected to be built around 30 kilometres from the Lancashire coast, was obtained during the UK Offshore Wind Leasing Round 4 in 2021.
Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP) is developing Morecambe on behalf of CIP, which took full ownership of the project at the beginning of 2025 from Cobra Group and Flotation Energy.
Construction of the offshore wind farm is set to begin in 2027, and once it is operational, it is projected to produce enough renewable energy to supply over 500,000 UK homes, according to the owner.
The statutory deadline for the decision regarding the Morecambe offshore wind farm’s DCO was October 23, but it was postponed in mid-October “to allow time to request additional information that was not available for review during the examination period and to enable all interested parties to examine and respond to such information.”
Keld Bennetsen, Executive Vice President and Head of Europe at COP, stated, “This favorable offshore planning approval marks a significant advancement for the Morecambe Offshore Wind Farm, and we are prepared to move forward to the next stage of the project. This approval strengthens our confidence in our vision for the future of offshore wind in the UK and the region, and it demonstrates the strong collaboration between our team, regulators, and stakeholders.”
