ABB finalizes acquisition of Gamesa Electric's power electronics division.

ABB has completed its acquisition of the power electronics division of Gamesa Electric in Spain from Siemens Gamesa.
This follows the initial announcement made in December of last year, though the financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
For the financial year ending September 30, 2025 (FY25), the acquired business reported annual revenues of approximately €145 million ($168.4 million).
The acquisition encompasses various products, including wind converters for doubly fed induction generators, battery energy storage systems for industrial applications, and inverters for large-scale solar projects.
Around 400 employees will become part of ABB through this deal, including key personnel from China, India, Australia, and the United States.
The transaction also includes two manufacturing facilities for converters located in Valencia and Madrid, Spain.
Daniel Gerber, ABB's renewable power business line manager for Motion High Power, stated, “By merging ABB’s global presence with Gamesa Electric’s products and expertise, the company is poised to meet rising demand and boost renewable energy adoption worldwide.”
In addition, ABB has entered into a supply and services agreement with Siemens Gamesa.
With this acquisition, ABB is expected to increase its serviceable installed base of wind converters by about 46GW.
Gamesa Electric has over four decades of expertise in power electronics, particularly in solar and renewable energy sectors.
The International Energy Agency’s Renewables 2025 report predicts a 60% increase in electricity generation from renewable sources, rising from 9,900 TWh last year to 16,200 TWh by 2030.
Renewables are anticipated to surpass coal as the primary source of global electricity generation by the end of this year or by mid-2026, influenced by hydropower output.
Solar photovoltaic is projected to account for over half of this growth, with wind energy contributing approximately 30%.
ABB employs more than 110,000 people globally and is listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange and Nasdaq Stockholm.
