Romania's bonus wind power auction exceeded its quota.

Romania has reportedly secured moderately lower prices in its recent wind power auction for contracts for difference (CfDs) compared to the regular round. A media report indicates that nine bids were accepted for seven proposed projects, with winners including OX2, Qair, and Zen Energy Group.

All wind farm projects in Romania that gained state support from the latest renewable electricity auction must be completed by 2028. The Ministry of Energy, along with the transmission system operator Transelectrica, has approved 315.8 MW, surpassing the minimum target of 290 MW, according to Economica.net.

This additional auction was held due to a lackluster turnout at the regular second wind power auction. Successful bidders will receive 15-year CfDs under a EUR 3 billion scheme financed by the European Union’s Modernisation Fund.

The prices from this round were also more favorable for the government compared to the previous auction, ranging from EUR 59.95 per MWh to EUR 74.9 per MWh, compared to EUR 65.17 per MWh to EUR 79.5 per MWh previously. The price ceiling remained at EUR 80 per MWh.

The two lowest lots are part of the same project. The Naxxar Wind Energy Project Zenon secured two lots, each at 64.8 MW, for the Tudor Vladimirescu project in Brăila county, northeast of Bucharest. The strike prices are EUR 59.95 per MWh and EUR 61.05 per MWh.

The special purpose vehicle is owned by Renewable Investors and Kaizer Gerhard, both from Germany.

Aukera Project Company Beta has acquired a CfD contract for 27.2 MW in the proposed Făurei wind farm, with a price of EUR 67.12 per MWh. This company is owned by AtlasInvest, based in Belgium.

In Romania, it is also developing the Delesti wind farm in Vaslui county and the Gura Ialomiței storage facility in Ialomița, which aims for a battery capacity of 250 MW and 500 MWh.

The first phase, with a capacity of 300 MWh, is currently under construction. The company received a EUR 9.9 million grant last year through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) and signed a EUR 60 million loan with Kommunalkredit Austria for the storage project.

OX2 has secured CfDs for additional capacity at its future wind farms. Brăila Green Energy qualified for 12.4 MW of the Urleasca wind power project at EUR 69.86 per MWh. This company is controlled by OX2, which also won a CfD for another portion of the same facility.

The Sweden-based firm has also gained 25.6 MW for its Cerchezu project, another success from the previous round, with its South Wind subsidiary securing a contract at EUR 74.49 per MWh this time.

Clever Power obtained 21 MW and 14 MW by bidding EUR 69.88 per MWh and EUR 72.92 per MWh, respectively, for the Falciu wind farm project, which is expected to include storage. The company is controlled by Romanian investor Barbu Cristian.

AZ Market Construction won just 8 MW for the Bordei Verde wind project, eligible for EUR 74.74 per MWh, and is owned by France-based Qair.

Traian Energy, a subsidiary of Zen Energy Group from Luxembourg, secured the highest price from the bonus round, with the wind park set to receive EUR 74.9 per MWh for a total capacity of 78 MW.
