The inaugural US LNG shipment for Bulgaria has reached Alexandroupolis.

METLEN, along with its International Energy Supply & Trading division, has completed its inaugural US LNG shipment to Alexandroupolis, intended for the Bulgarian market. As the largest private consumer and trader of natural gas in the region and one of Greece's top LNG importers, METLEN plays a crucial role in ensuring supply routes across the Balkans, connecting Bulgaria and Romania to neighboring markets.
Panagiotis Kanellopoulos, CEO of International Energy Supply & Trading at METLEN, remarked: “The arrival of our first US LNG shipment at the Alexandroupolis FSRU is a significant milestone for METLEN, aimed at exporting to Bulgaria. We take pride in our leading position in LNG imports across Southeastern Europe. Since 2010, we have reliably supplied the Greek market, and in 2018, we became the first company to import LNG through Revythoussa for export to Bulgaria. Over time, we have showcased Greece as a genuine energy hub, with METLEN playing a key role in providing dependable and competitive LNG throughout the Balkans and beyond. The introduction of this US-sourced cargo to the Bulgarian market further strengthens our longstanding partnership with Bulgargaz, enhancing our contribution to regional energy security.”
